Welcome!
RiverVision is a community organization based in Astoria, Oregon, at the mouth of the Columbia River. REFERENDUM!
Why a referendum? Here's what Astorian Don West of the Columbia River Business Alliance says: "Regardless of whether people support or oppose the planned LNG terminals, the idea that our County Commissioners would change county law to open up our parks and open spaces to high-risk gas pipelines is really an egregious breach of the public trust."

The referendum will challenge the County's decision to abandon existing County law, which prohibits major pipelines from being built across lands zoned for parks, open space, and recreation, in favor of a new rule that will allow major pipelines as a condition use in those areas. The Commissioners changed the law because NorthernStar's pipeline route would cross through land zoned under the Parks, Recreation and Open Space Designation. Another outrage from our Commissioners!

The referendum will be voted on at a special election on Sept. 16, 2008. As a result, a final decision on whether NorthernStar will receive even the first of many local, state, and federal permits is still months away.

Support the Governor! - Flood FERC with our complaints!
NorthernStar LNG asks FERC to Ignore Gov. Kulongoskis Request to Stop the LNG Permit Process!

NorthernStar just submitted a letter to FERC asking the agency to ignore Gov. Kulongoski's request to stop the pipeline and LNG permitting processes until a review of whether there is even a need for more gas in Oregon can be completed.

Tell FERC it should respect the governor's request. Tell FERC and our elected leaders that the FERC process has gone so awry that it needs to be stopped until a full review of gas demand and FERC procedures for notifying and working the public can be completed!

We are asking that you email your letters to the selected list provided below. These legislators have all asked to be kept in the loop. To meet the rules required by FERC, our congressional staffers will then forward our complaints to FERC. In addition, Dan Serres of Columbia Riverkeeper will make a formal FERC submittal with our letters.

You can send a letter you sent before and/or write a new one. This is another chance to let FERC know how we feel about this whole LNG review process. In addition, our legislators are listening.

Thanks for all the good work everyone is doing.

Sincerely,
Sue Vosburg and Paul Sansone of Gales Creek - on behalf of Oregon NO LNGers throughout the state!

Please send an email to the address list below:

1) Asking that FERC respect the request from Gov. Kulongoski to stop the LNG permitting process pending a needs analysis and review of FERCs current procedures that have created serious problems for landowners across Oregon;

2) Please attach any write-ups or explanations of the problems you have faced with FERC and the pipelines companies to date; and

3) Ask that all LNG related proposals be combined into a Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement including a definitive energy needs analysis.

The email list below includes staffers from Oregons congressional delegation, as well as key state leaders. Dan Serres of Columbia Riverkeeper will collect all emails and submit them as a formal filing to FERC so they will be distributed to all FERC commissioners.

It's more important than ever that you write our elected officials to tell them to STOP LNG. Perhaps they were counting on the good sense and integrity of our county commissioners before committing themselves. We know how useless that's been.

Our elected representatives need to speak up for landowners, communities, first responders, farmers, fishers, shippers, etc. - and they won't do it unless they hear from US!

Urge Oregon's elected leaders to take a stand against LNG terminals and LNG pipelines in Oregon!

Help us protect clean water and healthy rivers in Oregon and say no to LNG which has up to a 40% higher carbon impact than domestic natural gas and would directly undermine Oregon efforts to fight global warming.
