Next Meeting: Thursday, March 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the Warrenton Head Start, 200 SW 3rd Street, next to the Warrenton Community Center. The LNG Public Protection Act Moving forward! The LNG Public Protection Act was formally introduced yesterday. The bill number is HB 2015. This is the number you should refer to when asking you legislators to support the bill. Chief sponsors of the bill are Rep. Riley and Sen. Prozanski. Co-sponsors include: Rep. Bailey, Rep. Barker, Rep. Barnhart, Rep. Buckley, Rep. Boone, Rep. Dembrow, Rep. Greenlick, Rep. Harker, Rep. Shields, Rep. Tomei, Rep. Weidner, Sen. Rosenbaum and Sen. Walker. Please thank the co-sponsors, especially if they are from your district. Please contact your Rep and Senator and ask them to support the bill. Next steps: The bill will go to committee and there will be a public hearing on the bill during the next month or so. What the bill does: HB 2015 is a common sense bill that says that we should not give away state land and water rights unless there is a need for LNG in Oregon. Specifically, the bill states:
For more info: Brett VandenHeuvel, Executive Director, Columbia Riverkeeper CONGRATULATIONS! Oregon's Dept. of Environmental Quality just ruled that September's No Pipelines in Parks referendum invalidates their land use approvals for Bradwood. DEQ also accepted Columbia Riverkeeper's big win in our LUBA case, which also overturned key elements of the county's Bradwood-enabling land use changes. DEQ has now told Bradwood they are suspending consideration of Bradwood's request for key permits and, if Bradwood does not accept the suspension, then they will almost certainly deny the permits and kill the project. Either way Bradwood loses. The battle is far from over and YOUR VOICE continues to be important! Don't let Oregon become the backdoor for California's gas supply! Protect Oregon from fossil fuel energy speculators! Urge Oregon's elected leaders to take a stand against LNG terminals and LNG pipelines in Oregon! Help us protect clean water and healthy rivers in Oregon and say no to LNG which has up to a 40% higher carbon impact than domestic natural gas and would directly undermine Oregon efforts to fight global warming.
